Meet our instructors

Monique Martinengo
MWM Head Instructor & BASI Senior Faculty

Being guided by her internal compass of compassion, kindness and pure heart, Monique aims to bring out the best in others through intentional movement. She is the proud owner of @move_with_mon Pilates studio based in Bryanston, Johannesburg.

Not afraid to challenge herself, Monique has gone from studying Consumer Science to exploring Europe while working on a Yacht to diving into fashion retail.

Knowing that her purpose was more personal she found her calling in the world of Pilates.In 2008, Monique qualified as a BASI Comprehensive instructor. Having found her niche, she immediately hurled herself into learning and understanding the needs of clients.
Having been active and pursued a healthy lifestyle from a young age, sport and movement was an integral part of her life. In her earlier years she participated and excelled in many sports. Ballet was one of her true loves, which inspired her to follow the journey of Pilates.
Monique’s commitment to making a difference by doing what she loves has led her to become a BASI Senior faculty member of which she is extremely honoured and incredibly proud to be part of such a dynamic global team.

Monique truly values the guidance and continued education she receives from her mentors, colleagues, and many of the incredible industry leaders. Monique thrives on learning and sharing this knowledge with her clients and students. With this extensive armoury, Monique teaches the BASI method within South Africa and globally from Europe to Asia and the USA.

Da Mee Lee

BASI Comprehensive Pilates Instructor

'I am Da Mee Lee, born and raised in South Korea until the year I turned 16. My family decided to move to South Africa and we instantly fell in love with this country. I was always a lively and active child until I was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic scoliosis. At the age of 14 I had surgery to implant rods along part of my Cervical spine right down to most of my Thoracic spine. 

I tried to stay physically active despite my condition and major surgery. I was compelled to bed rest due to complications with my second pregnancy. My gynae suggested prenatal Pilates and that’s how it all started for me.

I completely fell in love with Pilates especially when I realized how beneficial it is for my body. 5 years later and I am in love with Pilates and now here I am as a BASI qualified comprehensive instructor and mother of 2 energetic boys.
My goal is to help others to also experience and feel the wonderful changes that Pilates can bring. There’s still so much to learn and explore through BASI Pilates and I cannot wait to unveil the journey and share it with everyone.'

Cara Scott

BASI Comprehensive Pilates Instructor

Cara is a former professional Ballet dancer with the Joburg Ballet who had to resign from the company in 2016 due to a hip injury.

 

Cara is a fully qualified BASI Comprehensive pilates instructor, Barre Body, HIIT and step aerobics instructor.

Her fitness motto; "Fix the mind first and the body you desire will follow."

Caitlyn Bester

BASI Comprehensive Pilates Instructor

Through the years, I have done a lot of sport and weight training which led me to many injuries, including joint and back pain. I decided to take on Pilates as rehabilitation and wow! After many sessions I found that the Pilates studio was my safe haven and I finally advanced my passion for Pilates and the human body by taking on the BASI Comprehensive Global program. It has been tremendously satisfying watching my body change in terms of strength, tone, injury management and weight loss. I hope to achieve the same goals with my clients in the future and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.

With a Degree in Biological Sciences, I have always been fascinated with the human body and function. I can now expand that enthusiasm in the art of movement.

I would love to share my journey and passion with the world and transform our bodies from the inside out.

Tennille Mahon

BASI Comprehensive Pilates Instructor

'I'm a 40 year old pilates lover, wife and mom to two incredibly energetic and chaotic boys.

 

I struggle with SIJ and lower back pain and took up Pilates upon the advice of my physio. I have been a client for 7 years and finally advanced my passion for pilates by completing my BASI instructor Mat course in 2019. I have also completed courses in Pilates for Children and Pilates for Clients with Osteoporosis. I've recently qualified as a Basi Comprehensive Instructor. It has been tremendously satisfying watching my body change in terms of strength, tone, injury management and weight loss. I hope to achieve the same results with my clients and I can’t wait to see you and your kiddies in the studio!'

Sameerah Sader

BASI Comprehensive Pilates Instructor

Embarking on a journey of self-discovery, Sam combined Pilates into her fast-paced banking job. Suffering from all sorts of pain from a full time behind the desk job, she took the decision to bring back balance and well being into her life. She found solace and strength not just in sculpting her body but also nurturing her mental resilience. This lead her to begin her journey to becoming a BASI pilates instructor in 2023. 

Leaving behind spreadsheets for mindful movement, she discovered a new passion – guiding others on their path to holistic wellness through Pilates. Amidst the daily demands of life, she wants to help others reconnect with themselves, become stronger and be empowered. It’s not just about fitness for her; it’s about fulfilling a venture into a world where balance isn’t just a financial term, but a way of life.
